Private Loans for College Students Available Online

Private loans for college are still available online for the 2009-2010 school year. These type of alternative student loans are different from Federal student loans and aid in that the funds can be applied to all college expenses ranging from tuition costs to transportation fees incurred from student related travel. In addition, funds from private college student loans may be put toward computers, room and board and school supplies.

Traditionally many college students need more money to fill in the gap between what Federal aid and loans cover and the total cost of attending college annually. Many of these students turn to finding private student loans online. It is advised to compare private loan issuers and their interest rates as well as their terms and conditions. The more research done, the more educated the borrower (and co-signer) will be.

PRivate college student loans typically have a repayment period starting six (6) months after the student has graduated or cease to take classes as a half-time student.

What if a college student is taking classes at a community college or school that is not a 4-year college or university… can that student then borrow a private student loan still? Also, how much can a student typically borrow in a private loan? I mean what if that student did not get any federal student aid or loans, are there strict limits with private loans as there are with federal stafford loans??

Private loans or public loans, navigating the ‘paying for college’ landscape can be difficult. One resource that teens and parents may want to take advantage of are the free educational presentations offered by the Army National Guard. The National Guard’s Partners in Education website (http://www.partnersineducation.com) gives info on all of the Guard’s school program offerings, which include the YOU CAN School program that has presentations on topics like study skills, paying for college and more.
