College Tuition
College Tuition
Parents saving to pay for their child’s college tuition have a tough row to hoe. Pinching pennies is neither easy nor fun, but in the long run it can offset the amount of student aid lending required to get the dependent through school. The following a two key tips to help parents save for that college tuition bill.
Need Versus Want
Most of us have this problem with distinguishing between the difference of need and want. Things we need are fairly straightforward and generally involve items that sustain life such as food, housing, clothes, and transportation. While food is an obvious need, the type of food you opt to purchase may result in a want. For instance, do you really need to dine out when you can eat home for less money? Sure you need a car, but do you have to have the best car out there or will the one you are driving do for now? The more times you choose your needs over wants, the more money you will have to pay for college tuition.
Try If Before You Buy It
In order to avoid those expensive purchases that don’t pay off in the long run, try it before you buy it. Big price tag items such as jet-skis, four-wheelers, and boats can be rented too. Try renting an item similar to the one you plan on purchasing. If after using it, you find you still want it, go ahead and make the purchase. However, if after your test run you realize you aren’t so into your purchase, you have the option of saving that money for college tuition.
Rarely does a parent manage to save up enough money to pay for their dependent(s)’ college tuition. More likely than not, either the student will have to qualify for some type of government financial aid of the parent will end up taking out a private student loan to help foot the bill.
